New cableways will mean improved convenience and transport capacity.In the course of the project three lifts will be taken down. One lift will be converted from a detachable four-seat chair lift to a detachable eight-seat chair lift and another lift, consisting of two sections, will be newly constructed. In spite of a one-facility decrease transport capacity will be increased.
Which cableways will be built new and which will remain?
The “Schlosshochalm” T-bar lift, the “Weitmoser” six-seat chair lift, the “Hohe Scharte” two-seat chair lift and the “Schlossalmbahn II” aerial tramway remain (blue lines in picture, right). The funicular railway, the “Haitzingalm” double chair lift and the four-seat “Kleine Scharte” chair lift (red lines) will be dismantled.
These measures will provide compression and optimal use of the ski area. The “Sendleiten“ four-seat chair lift will remain – but in the course of the project this will be converted to an eight-seat lift (in the next years) with a capacity of around 4,000 persons per hour (left green line). The new addition is the circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway which will enable skiers to go from the valley to the top station without changing (right green line). And transport capacity from the valley station will be more than doubled.
What are the advantages of the new circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway?
The “Modernisation of the Schlossalmbahn and ski slopes” project provides for the building of a circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway with cabins each holding 10 persons. Visitors will get from the car parking area to the midway station and from there to the Schlossalm very quickly. Transport capacity will be increased from 1,400 to 3,000 persons per hour. Waiting time in the valley will be reduced and comfort levels increased. The necessity to change at the midway station will longer apply resulting in guaranteed non-stop, comfortable transport from the valley to the top station. Different weather conditions in the course of the season alter the frequency of use of ski slopes. By means of the two partial sections of the new circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway the service can be adapted perfectly to different conditions on the mountain.
The circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway – data and facts
The new circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway will be travelling at a speed of 6 metres per second. On the first leg from the valley to the midway station, it will take less than 4 minutes and just over 6 minutes for the second leg from midway to the top station. The average gradient of the circulating mono-cable aerial ropeway is 38.5 per cent. The new lift has a horizontal length of 3,163 metres and height difference of 1,218 metres. Transport capacity is increased to 3,000 persons per hour.
New downhill run and wider slopes
The connected core ski area of Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel links Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein and extends from 850 to 2,300 metres above sea level. The new ski-run design will ensure that concentrations of skiers are dispersed; hazard areas and bottlenecks will be diffused in the downhill area.
Ski-run construction ensures more safety
The Schlossalm ski area together with the Angertal ski centre and the Stubnerkogel form an extensive interconnected ski area. As part of this major project, new slopes will be constructed, and because some of the existing slopes in the Schlossalm ski area no longer satisfy current technological requirements there will be reconstruction and dismantling of ski-runs or parts thereof. Above all narrow areas and slopes with greater gradients will be brought into line with skiers’ requirements. With this comprehensive new design, Gasteiner Bergbahnen is keen to increase safety on the runs and enable visitors to enjoy carefree skiing.
Compressed ski runs make the ski area more attractive. By adapting within the next years, a number of ski slopes the entire ski area from Haitzingalm onwards will be more attractive and enlarged by a second ski run fit for world-cup events. The generation project foresees also along the Sendleiten from the Brandbichl area onwards a ski run as far as the midway station of the new Schlossalmbahn lift (south, blue line). A part of this ski run is already finished and will be completed in the next years.
Storage reservoir ensures water supplies
The new Haitzingalm storage reservoir with a water surface of 1.6 hectares and a depth of 17 metres is to be developed south of the new Schlossalmbahn cableway, above the midway station. The storage reservoir has a holding capacity of around 150,000 cubic metres.
